Zara Tindall Reflects on How Prince William and Harry Have Influenced Her Life

Princess Anne’s daughter reveals dislike for media attention and awards spotlight

Zara Tindall has shared a rare and candid reflection on the unintended effects of her royal cousins Prince William and Harry’s public status, admitting their presence once brought unexpected media attention her way.

In a resurfaced interview, Princess Anne’s daughter recalled England’s 2007 rugby match against Italy, where she was in the stands supporting her then-boyfriend, Mike Tindall. Also in attendance were Prince William, Prince Harry, and Princess Catherine, who drew significant media attention.

“They only found me because William and Harry were sitting on the other side,” Zara told The Guardian. “It’s annoying but I have to get on with it. It’s not going to go away. I just have to do what I need to do.”

The accomplished equestrian also revealed her dislike for public recognition, despite being named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2006.

“It was fantastic to be recognised. It’s great for the sport, but I hate things like that,” she admitted. “Glitzy award ceremonies aren’t my favourite thing. I like performing—I don’t like standing there and having to go.”

Zara, now a mother of three, added that the win came as a surprise: “Don’t get me wrong, it was fantastic—a nice shock. I hadn’t prepared myself to win, that’s why I was so shocked when we won.”
