Future king champions mental health for farmers amid Harry’s quiet exit
from Sentebale
Prince William has announced a new patronage focused on rural mental health,
just as his brother, the Duke of Sussex, confirmed his departure from one of
his most cherished charities.
The Prince of Wales revealed his new role as Patron of We Are Farming Minds, a
Herefordshire-based organisation supporting mental health in farming
communities. In a statement shared by Kensington Palace, William expressed his
commitment to destigmatising mental health issues among farmers, noting the
increasing pressures they face.
“Delighted to become Patron of @wearefarmingminds,” the statement read. “With
all the external pressures faced by farmers, it has never been more important
to break the stigma and support better mental health.”
The announcement, tied to King Charles granting the new role, comes just as
Harry confirmed his resignation from Sentebale — the African charity he
co-founded in 2006 in memory of Princess Diana and the late Queen ‘Mamohato of
Lesotho.
Harry’s departure followed reported tensions with the organisation’s
chairperson, Dr Sophie Chandauka. Sentebale had been one of the few charities
he remained closely linked to after stepping back from royal duties.
As William continues to expand his charitable portfolio within the royal fold,
his brother’s quiet departure from Sentebale has sparked concern about the
Duke of Sussex’s waning ties to his earlier royal commitments.
