WellChild Celebrates 2026 Marathon Milestone as Duke of Sussex Maintains
Patronage Role
Despite continued tensions with the royal family, Prince Harry remains
committed to his long-standing charitable work—most notably with WellChild,
the UK charity he has passionately supported for over 16 years.
On Thursday, WellChild shared an exciting announcement, congratulating its
shortlisted entrants for the 2026 London Marathon. The charity also issued a
public call for runners to join their team and take part in something “much
bigger” by supporting seriously ill children across the United Kingdom.
Participants who choose to run on behalf of the charity will receive what the
organisation described as “amazing support, cheer points, running top, team
camaraderie, and a fantastic post-race reception.” In their announcement,
WellChild encouraged the public to show their support and help “make a huge
difference to seriously ill children in the UK.”
Prince Harry, who is father to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, has often
spoken about how becoming a parent deepened his bond with WellChild’s mission.
Over the years, he has remained a dedicated patron—frequently attending the
charity’s annual awards ceremony, which honours the extraordinary strength and
resilience of the young people and families it serves.
While it remains unconfirmed whether the Duke of Sussex will attend the 2026
marathon in person, reports suggest he may make a remote appearance to share a
special message with the runners and offer his continued support.
This uplifting announcement comes at a time when the royal rift between Harry
and King Charles shows no signs of easing. Despite attempts by the Duke to
reconnect, sources say the King has not been responsive—particularly following
Harry’s controversial remarks during a BBC interview last month.
Royal commentators suggest the relationship may be beyond repair, but through
it all, Harry’s dedication to WellChild stands as a consistent and meaningful
part of his public life—one that continues to resonate far beyond palace
walls.
