Prince Harry takes a risk like Diana, but the palace warns there’s no going back

Duke’s candid remarks about King Charles viewed as final rupture in royal relations

Prince Harry may have reached a point of no return with the Royal Family, with insiders warning his latest actions have severely damaged any hope of reconciliation with King Charles.

According to a Us Weekly report published May 5, royal sources believe the Duke of Sussex has mirrored the bold move once taken by his late mother, Princess Diana — going public with private royal matters — and in doing so, may have permanently fractured his bond with the monarch.

The tension escalated following Harry’s emotional interview with BBC News after he lost his legal appeal for increased police protection in the UK. During the conversation, he revealed, “My father won’t speak with me,” and added, “I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

A palace insider called the comments “risky,” saying they shocked many within the royal household. “It’s acceptable for King Charles to discuss his own health,” the source said. “But Harry’s suggestion about his father’s lifespan upset everyone at the Palace.”

The source added that Harry has repeatedly broken the Royal Family’s long-standing rule to “never explain, never complain” — pointing to his memoir Spare, his Netflix documentary, and multiple interviews as key examples.

“Harry did what his mother did,” the insider said. “And once you go down that road, it’s impossible to return to the fold.”

Royal biographer Christopher Andersen echoed those concerns. “There’s just too much bitterness, too many burned bridges,” he said. “If a reconciliation once seemed difficult, it now feels all but impossible. This was the final straw.”
