Senior aides weigh potential royal appearance at 2027 Games amid hopes of reconciliation
Fresh signs of a possible royal reconciliation have emerged as King Charles reportedly reviews an invitation from his son, the Duke of Sussex, to attend the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
According to The Mail on Sunday, Harry is extending an olive branch by inviting his father to the international sporting event he founded for injured and sick veterans. While formal invitations have not yet been issued, Harry is said to be sending a digital invite this month, with official documentation to follow.
The move has prompted behind-the-scenes discussions at the Palace, with senior aides considering the monarch’s potential appearance. Sources told The Telegraph that the royal household sees the Games as a chance to not only honour veterans but also rebuild strained family ties.
Harry has personally approved the wording and guest list for the event, which includes members of the royal family. Private secretaries are expected to receive the first round of invitations via email.
Insiders suggest the Palace regrets the limited royal support for the 2023 Games in Dusseldorf and now views the UK-hosted event as a timely opportunity to show solidarity. Even if King Charles does not attend in person, there is speculation that a royal representative could be sent in his place.
