US actress defends Duchess amid online criticism of pre-delivery clip with
Harry
Meghan Markle has found an ally in Hollywood after facing online backlash for
her now-viral hospital dance video with Harry.
To mark daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday, the Duchess of Sussex shared a
lighthearted throwback clip of herself and Harry dancing in a hospital room to
The Baby Momma Dance — a popular TikTok trend — just before Lilibet’s birth.
“Four years ago today, this also happened,” Meghan wrote alongside the video.
“Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food,
all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work — there was only one thing left
to do!”
While the playful video delighted many fans, it also sparked criticism across
social media, with some users labelling it “cringe.”
Amid the backlash, US television star and singer Candiace Dillard came to
Meghan’s defence, condemning the “misogynoir” attacks levelled at the Duchess.
Sharing a fan’s post that criticised Meghan’s appearance in the video,
Candiace responded: “Actually, at 9 months pregnant, I was leg pressing three
times my weight, doing pull-ups twice my weight, and walking several miles on
a treadmill — so st* and just say you hate that a Black woman married a white
prince.”*
Her remarks drew further support from Meghan’s fans, who praised Dillard for
speaking out.
