Reports claim the monarch acted when Harry criticised Queen Camilla in his memoir
King Charles is said to have reached breaking point after Harry’s comments about Queen Camilla in his memoir Spare, leading to the decision to remove Harry and Meghan Markle from Frogmore Cottage.
In the book, Harry describes the period after Princess Diana’s death and says he and his brother asked their father not to marry Camilla because they feared she might become a “wicked stepmother.” He also recalls his first formal meeting with her while still at Eton.
Sources told the Express that the King viewed these remarks as a clear step too far. One insider said Harry had always known that criticism of Camilla was a firm boundary for his father, yet he ignored it. According to the source, the King saw it as an unmistakable act of disrespect.
The cottage, originally given to Harry and Meghan by Queen Elizabeth after their wedding, was reclaimed shortly after the book’s release. Royal commentators note that this decision went against the late Queen’s efforts to keep Harry included in the family fold.
Historian Dr Tessa Dunlop said Harry had launched “verbal hand grenades” at both his relatives and the institution he once represented, but did so from a vulnerable position outside the family structure.
Harry and Meghan now live in Montecito with their children, continuing their life in California while relations with the royal family remain strained.
