Royal meeting at Sandringham marks deepening UK-India partnership
King Charles welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sandringham House
this afternoon, where a symbolic gesture highlighted a growing diplomatic bond
between the United Kingdom and India.
The visit came just hours after both nations reached a major milestone with
the signing of a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expected to boost
bilateral trade by around $34 billion annually. The deal is being hailed as a
significant step in strengthening not only economic ties but also political
and cultural cooperation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi presented King Charles with a special
gift—a tree to be planted this autumn as part of the Indian leader’s
environmental campaign, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, which encourages citizens to plant
a tree in honour of their mothers.
The Royal Family’s official Instagram account shared a moment from the
meeting, noting: “This afternoon, The King received the Prime Minister of the
Republic of India, Narendra Modi at Sandringham House. During their time
together, His Majesty was given a tree to be planted this Autumn, inspired by
the environmental initiative launched by the Prime Minister.”
Beyond the ceremonial gesture, the meeting underscored the nations’ shared
commitment to collaboration in areas such as sustainability, trade, and
cultural exchange—marking a new chapter in UK-India relations.
