Royal pair earn widespread praise for fluency in French and dedication to
global causes
King Charles and Prince William have drawn widespread admiration for their
recent display of French fluency during key public engagements.
The future King left attendees in awe as he delivered a powerful keynote on
ocean preservation, beginning and ending his address with a surprise bilingual
gesture. Opening in French, he said: “Hello. It is a pleasure to be with you
today, to discuss an incredibly important issue that I hold dear to my heart.”
He concluded in French as well, leaving a lasting impression.
William delivered the speech in his role as founder and president of The
Earthshot Prize, a global initiative focused on environmental innovation.
King Charles, too, demonstrated his linguistic skills during several
significant appearances. In a 26-minute throne speech to Canadian lawmakers,
the King smoothly alternated between English and French. He also received
praise for his elegant use of French while addressing the French Senate in
2023 and during a state banquet at the Palace of Versailles.
Both the King and the Prince have been lauded for their fluency in French and
their continued commitment to diplomacy and environmental advocacy on the
world stage.
