Kate Middleton Pays Tribute to Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth with Her Jewellery Selection

Princess of Wales pays tribute to royal icons with symbolic ring swap

Kate Middleton’s latest jewellery selection at the Commonwealth Day service at
Westminster Abbey was a heartfelt tribute to two of the most influential women
in royal history—Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth.

The Princess of Wales made a subtle but meaningful change by wearing her
sapphire engagement ring, originally belonging to Diana, instead of her usual
sapphire and diamond eternity band. The choice signified her continued homage
to both her late mother-in-law and the late Queen.

Jewellery expert Tobias Kormind told GB News that the decision was a “touching
tribute” to both royal icons. “Notably, she chose to wear her sapphire
engagement ring (passed down from Princess Diana) for the occasion, after
preferring to wear her sapphire and diamond eternity ring for most recent
outings,” he explained.

Since resuming public duties, Kate has alternated between the two rings,
wearing the eternity band for personal milestones—such as her cancer recovery
announcement—while reserving Diana’s engagement ring for significant royal
occasions, including state visits and Remembrance services.

Kate completed her Commonwealth Day ensemble with additional meaningful
pieces, including Queen Elizabeth’s pearl choker and Diana’s Collingwood pearl
drop earrings, further reinforcing her tribute to the late royal matriarchs.
