The Princess of Wales delivered a cheeky response when mistaken for Prince
William’s aide during a past care home engagement.
Despite being one of the most recognisable women in the world, even Catherine
has been confused for someone else — specifically, her husband’s assistant.
The amusing moment took place during a visit to Shire Hall Care Home in
Cardiff some years ago. According to The Mirror, an elderly resident, Joan
Drew-Smith, innocently pointed at the Princess and asked William, “Is that
your assistant?”
Quick with a quip, Catherine responded, “Well, I am your assistant.” Turning
to William with a smile, she added, “I have been for a long time!”
The light-hearted exchange has recently resurfaced as the Prince and Princess
of Wales maintain a busy schedule of public appearances.
On Thursday, 22 May, Catherine helped christen HMS Glasgow, a state-of-the-art
warship developed to safeguard British aircraft carriers. In her role as the
vessel’s official sponsor, she performed the traditional bottle-smashing
ceremony against the hull.
Just days prior, she made a surprise appearance at a Buckingham Palace garden
party — her first in two years — joining Prince William in greeting guests
amid fine weather.
