Duchess of Sussex marks milestone moment with cupcakes and memories of her
early romance with Harry
Meghan Markle delighted fans with a heartwarming update this Fourth of July,
sharing a glimpse into a cherished family tradition now carried on by her
children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
In a rare personal post on her official Instagram account, the Duchess of
Sussex revealed that the couple’s children helped celebrate a day that holds
special meaning in her relationship with Prince Harry—the anniversary of their
second date.
The first photo showed a tray of colourful cupcakes, which Meghan hinted were
decorated by Archie and Lilibet in honour of the occasion. Another image
featured a nostalgic throwback of Meghan and Harry on their second date. A
third snap captured a large cupcake adorned with the words “4th of July.”
“Our second date was the 4th of July 2016, and H brought me cupcakes to
celebrate,” Meghan wrote. “Now, all these years later, our two children are in
on the tradition. Happy Independence Day! May your day be as sweet as these
cupcakes.”
The sweet update gave followers a rare peek into the couple’s private family
life and their efforts to honour personal milestones with simple, joyful
traditions.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were married on May 19, 2018, at St George’s
Chapel, Windsor. After stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020,
the couple settled in California, where they’ve embraced a quieter,
family-focused lifestyle with their two young children.
