Meghan Markle Opens Up About Early Challenges in Acting Career

The Duchess of Sussex opens up about auditions, humble beginnings, and the
role that changed her life

Meghan Markle has shared a rare glimpse into her early days as an aspiring
actress, opening up on her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder about the
challenges she faced before her breakout role on Suits.

Joined by her former stylist and now CEO Cassandra Morales Thurswell, the
Duchess of Sussex, 43, recalled the “early days” of constant auditions and
hustle. “This is pre-Suits for me,” she said. “You talk about not having a
strategy, but always hustling.”

Meghan revealed that a pair of $200 black Louboutin flats—picked out with
Thurswell’s help—became a lucky charm. “I wore those shoes on my final
audition for Suits when I booked the part,” she said, referencing her role as
Rachel Zane in the legal drama, which premiered in 2011.

Now living in Los Angeles with Prince Harry and their two children, Meghan
also revealed she kept a special memento from the show: “I still have the
pencil skirt from the first episode! It’s a time capsule for me.”

Reflecting on the show’s unexpected streaming resurgence, she added: “It was
so well written and so well produced,” attributing its lasting appeal to its
quality storytelling and tight production.
