Royal insiders suggest a modern, less formal ceremony is in place for the future King and Queen
Prince William and Catherine are reportedly preparing behind the scenes for a possible early ascension to the throne as King Charles continues cancer treatment, prompting the Palace to expedite long-term plans.
Though Buckingham Palace maintains that the monarch is in good health, insiders told Harper’s Bazaar that William’s coronation could arrive “sooner rather than later” due to Charles’ age and recent diagnosis.
Royal author Tom Quinn revealed that William and Catherine’s coronation will mark a clear shift from tradition. “For Charles, the emphasis has been on ceremony, on dignity, all that kind of old-fashioned stuff,” Quinn noted. “They won’t be doing that. They’ll be doing the opposite.”
The next coronation, according to royal commentator Robert Hardman, will be “a very different affair” and reflective of a new reign. The future King William and Queen Catherine are expected to favour a streamlined, more modern approach.
Quinn added, “The monarchy will look much less formal, less stiff than it has been under Charles. It’ll be less ceremony. It’ll be shorter. I think he’ll try to—I wouldn’t say modernise, but maybe some of the elements will feel more contemporary.”
