Football icon praises Rio de Janeiro as Earthshot’s next host city
David Beckham has expressed his excitement following Prince William’s
announcement that the Earthshot Prize Awards will take place in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil later this year.
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a video unveiling the news, featuring
William alongside Earthshot Prize Trustees Dame Christiana Figueres and Dame
Jacinda Ardern. Brazilian stars Cafu, Maju Coutinho, Marcos Palmeira, and
Mauro Silva also took part in the celebratory message.
Reacting to the announcement, Beckham offered his support to the future King,
saying, “I am so, so excited,” and describing Brazil as a place “where nature
and culture go hand-in-hand.”
Prince William shared his enthusiasm for bringing the Earthshot Prize to South
America for the first time, noting that the event will unite global
environmental innovators, investors, and leaders to accelerate solutions to
the planet’s most urgent challenges.
The Earthshot celebrations will include a series of events spotlighting
groundbreaking environmental ideas, culminating in the annual awards ceremony
where five winning projects will each receive £1 million to expand their
impact worldwide.
